Online, Offline and last seen: reading device connectivity

An Offline label describes missing recent heartbeats. It does not mean a device was deleted, that the service was uninstalled or that its enrollment was lost.

Start with the timestamp

Compare last-seen time with the expected availability of the computer. A laptop that is asleep or away from its network cannot report a fresh heartbeat. Confirm connectivity before attempting a management operation.

Preserve identity while diagnosing

When access returns, the installed service can reconnect using its existing device identity. Reinstalling as the first response adds unnecessary uncertainty. Check the local service and network with the device owner when appropriate.

Confirm the transition

Wait for a new authenticated heartbeat and verify that the same dashboard record returns Online. Use the actual result of a command to determine whether it completed; a connectivity label alone does not prove execution.
